BENTON CITY - A huge free-throw attempt disparity didn't help much but the Royal Lady Knights' lack of proficient shooting was what ended any chance of a win Tuesday night.

The host Kiona-Benton squad shot 21 free throws to Royal's zero and made the shots that counted in a 50-18 South Central Athletic Conference (SCAC) East clash.

Royal (1-13, 0-7) trailed 23-8 at halftime before Kiona-Benton (11-4, 6-1) opened up the third quarter on an 8-0 run.

"They made that run to start the second half and that was a killer," Royal head coach Phil Daubel said. "They also had 21 free throw attempts to zero. They were a lot more aggressive going to the rim but we didn't get a lot of calls, not that they would have made a big difference. The main thing is that we shot poorly, at least under 20 percent. We got looks but we just couldn't make anything."

Kayla Smith led Royal with eight points.
