FBI seeks help finding Spokane bombers

SPOKANE - The FBI is asking for help in finding the people responsible for a bomb.

A $20,000 reward is being offered for the successful arrest and conviction of the responsible parties. 

A Spokane bomb unit successfully removed a potentially explosive device found inside a backpack in downtown Spokane on Monday morning.

At approximately 9:25 a.m., a Swiss Army-brand backpack was discovered on a bench at the northeast corner of North Washington Street and West Main Avenue in downtown Spokane, according to the FBI.

The backpack was discovered by city employees 30 minutes before a Martin Luther King Jr. parade was scheduled to take place.

The backpack was placed along the route of the parade and FBI quickly redirected the parade, estimated to be attended by 1,500 people.

The Spokane Explosives Disposal Unit was notified and was able to neutralize the device safely. 

Upon further analysis of the device, the unit determined the explosive device had the capacity to inflict multiple causalities, according to the FBI.

In addition to the explosive device, the backpack had two T-shirts inside of it.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the carrier of the backpack.

The FBI considers the subjects to be armed and dangerous.
