MOSES LAKE IRRIGATION AND REHABILITATION DISTRICT

| January 14, 2011 5:00 AM

Reader unhappy with ballot handling

I challenge the recent election votes because my votes and other votes were not protected with integrity.

Upon bringing my votes into the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation office, I was compelled to hand them to an irrigation employee who taped the envelope and set them behind the counter. I asked him what was going to happen to my votes and he said they would put them in a safe when they had time. I asked him who had access to the safe and he said, "We do." Then another voter handed her votes in and they were set on mine. More voters were dropping off votes as I was leaving.

My question is what happened to my votes? Who had access to them? Who had access to the safe and all the votes?

I protest the security and integrity of these votes. I protest the unfairness of placing votes not properly protected.

Secure votes are the basis of our free society. A compromised of protecting the people's votes is like shredding our society apart. Voters' freedom is so dear that we send our young people to countries like Iraq so the Iraqi people can vote and have their votes protected and secure. Our soldiers give their lives to not allow what happened to the votes at the irrigation district.

I implore the irrigation board to exhibit strong moral character and declare the election invalid and hold another election with votes that will be secure and protected with integrity.

A secure vote is a precious commodity.
