GOVERNMENT

Reader writes of budget

The theme of Governor Gregoire's speech was to act boldly and to enact government reforms now.  Maybe this means she will finally listen to Republican ideas.  Ideas like reforming workers comp insurance, streamlining the state's permitting processes, improving transportation infrastructure and balancing the budget without creating or raising taxes or fees will reset our government on the path to sustainability.  These reforms will cut the bureaucratic tape for small businesses and provide real job creation in Washington state.  As much as the Democrats want to hide the fact that they have increased the size of government by 33 percent since Gregoire took office, they can no longer continue with the status quo, and I appreciate the Governor for finally realizing that fact.  Sadly, if the Democrats had been listening to our Republican legislators we would have begun these 'bold' actions years ago.
