Representative writes of session start

I thought I'd drop you a quick note to tell you that I was sworn in as state representative today. It continues to be a great honor and privilege to represent the people and communities of the 13th District. Your trust in me is appreciated.

The 2011 legislative session is underway and will run 105 days. I came to Olympia focused on creating jobs and balancing the state budget without raising taxes. No one is saying it is easy, but most state lawmakers agree it's absolutely necessary. You will be learning more about the solutions I support in the upcoming weeks.

As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, I will be directly involved in the state budget. We need to have a real debate on the role of state government and what it should look like. I look forward to bringing the voices of the 13th District to this discussion.

I will also sit on the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee where I will be focusing on critical water issues and helping farmers, landowners, builders, and others who struggle with decisions of state government.

The most important part of my job is listening to those I represent. I encourage you to call, write or e-mail me if I can ever be of assistance. And if you are going to be in the Olympia area during the legislative session, please let me know. I'd enjoy meeting with you.

In closing, it is my goal to reach out to as many people as possible through regular updates.
