Leo Anton Heilman

Leo Anton Heilman, 77, Moses Lake, former longtime Ephrata resident passed away surrounded by family on January 8, 2011 at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, Jan. 14, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Ephrata, with burial at Guarding Angels Cemetery, 2595 Road L N.E. in Moses Lake. Leo was born in Bowdle, South Dakota on March 20, 1933. He attended school in Hoven, SD and joined the Navy in 1956. After his honorable discharge, Leo moved to Seattle, WA where he went to work at Boeing. While working at Boeing, Leo attended barber school. After graduating from barber school Leo opened a five chair barber shop in Marysville, WA. At this time he also worked on his small family farm. In 1973 Leo moved to the Columbia Basin where he farmed on Road 7 in Ephrata. After retiring from farming he moved to Moses Lake where he resided until his death.

Leo was an advocate for the Junior Rodeo Program, as well as the FFA and 4H programs. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and fulfilled a lifetime dream in the summer of 2009 traveling through Alaska. 

Leo is survived by his wife Karen Heilman. His children Alan Heilman (Donna), Sue Brown (Steve), Sandy Heilman (Cheryl) and Mark Heilman. His grand children T. J. Vollema, Skye Heilman, Bradley Heilman, Theresa Johnson (Chris). Step children Sue Yurashak (Mark), Steve Hitzroth (Bonnie), Kelly Pugh (Steve), Debbie Hitzroth, Mark Hitzroth (Dawn) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Siblings Paul Heilman, John Heilman (Sally), Irene Imbery (George), Betty Imbery (Mel), George Heilman (Gerry), and Bernie Johnson (Jerry) and numerous nieces and nephews. Also his toy poodle Daisy.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents Bernard Heilman and Elizabeth Heilman.
