YAKIMA - Gabe Porter's clutch free throw shooting rescued the Moses Lake Chiefs and in turn wiped out a six-game losing streak.

Porter hit two free throws with 16 seconds left to hold on and defeat the host Eisenhower Cadets 50-49 in overtime Friday to claim their first Big 9 victory of the season.

"He was clutch to step up to the line like that, he really did a nice job," Moses Lake head coach John Hohman said. "Those were important free throws for him to make since it was a very big game for us. If we don't win this we're 0-3 heading into Davis. I think it gives us some momentum into that game and to validate their hard work. They have not given up ever which is a testimony to their character."

Porter finished with 10 points while Matt Franz led Moses Lake (4-7, 1-2) with 24 points.

"Matt was told afterward that he was a big reason for the win," "But he told Gabe afterward it was because of the free throws that we won. It shows how much they like each other and are looking out for one another."

The Chiefs overcame a five-point deficit going into the fourth quarter to forge a 44-44 tie and set up the extra session.

Moses Lake trailed by as much as 10 points in the third quarter.

"We just made some shots," Hohman said. "Basketball is a simple game. You make your shots you will get better."

Kyler Moats finished with seven points and eight assists against one turnover.

"He's been playing point guard all year and he's been getting it done," Hohman said. "I don't know if that's his natural position, but he rights our ship. He's a born leader."

Chief Bryce Perez scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds in his first game from injury.

With the victory Moses Lake surpassed last year's win total.
