In Loving Memory of George Arthur Purviss

Longtime Moses Lake resident George Arthur Purviss passed away on January 5, 2011 at Columbia Crest Care and Rehabilitation Center in Moses Lake.

George was born August 9th, 1929 in Longview, WA to George Sr. and Jenny (Swanson) Purviss. George played both defense and offense for the "Scotties" football team of Kelso High School, earning him the nickname "Iron Man". Following his graduation in 1948, George enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving valiantly for four years in Korea and Japan. After the Army he attended Washington State University; between school years he worked in Moses Lake for his uncle Russ Swanson's construction business. George returned to Kelso, where he worked as a logger and longshoreman. As a second generation horseman, George raised Quarter horses, and competed in rodeo as a tie down roper, and team roper. In 1968 George moved his family and horse herd back to Moses Lake to manage Bob Edwards' "Flying "E" Thoroughbred Ranch", and to continue raising Thoroughbred, Paint, and Quarter horses. When the ranch property was purchased to build the "Links at Moses Pointe" golf resort, George worked heavy construction in the building of the golf course.

The Purviss family would like to thank the staff of Columbia Crest Care and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care George received during his time there.

He is survived by his daughter Susan Purviss, sons Dave Purviss, Greg Purviss and his wife Nancy; granddaughter Sara Clark and husband Andy, great grandsons Colton and Cash; two sisters Katherine Kelley and Marge Ahrens of Longview, WA, along with numerous family and friends.

Happy Trails George.
