WARDEN 38, Connell 21

CONNELL - A once strong wrestling rivalry, recently put into hibernation, may be once again opening its eyes.

The Warden Cougars traveled to Connell on Tuesday night to renew a battle.

Behind three key pin victories the Cougars held on for a 38-21 win over Connell, but not before having to sweat things out a bit.

"I am pleased to see two young coaches from Connell that are bringing their program back," Warden head coach Rick Bowers said. "The numbers of athletes and fans are rising back to earlier times."

Cesar Rangel (140-pounds), Adam Hansen (189-pounds), and Gerino Luna (215-pounds) all recorded pin victories to gain the valuable 18-points that made the difference.

The two teams traded forfeit losses.

Other wins were earned by Javier Tapia (112-pounds) who scored a 5-3 win over Misael Lopez, Anthony Platas (130-pounds) behind an 8-5 victory, Ernesto Orosco (135-pounds) with a 9-2 triumph over Jacob Jenks, and Hector Camacho (152-pounds) and his 18-2 technical fall over Joel Amazola.

"Connell gave us a good match and scored as many points against us as anyone has all season," Bowers said. "It was a good night for both teams with several close matches."
