MOSES LAKE - Wow. I just don't quite know how else to explain the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District (MLIRD) election held earlier this month.

I commend the staff for all the extra work they had to do because of an antiquated election process that was designed to accommodate just a few hundred people. It defiantly needs to be overhauled.

I would like to thank all the property owners in the MLIRD district that took the time to sit down and send in over 5,200 ballets to us. This was the largest turnout we have ever had, Last year also set a record with a little over 1,400 votes.

You are sending us MLIRD directors and employees a huge message letting us know we are now under the magnifying glass.

The body of water called Moses Lake is a very important asset that needs to be taken care of now not later.

Curt Carpenter our manager assures us this year we will be removing the sediment from the lake and the milfoil problem will be 90 percent under control. I assure you I will be working to see that your money is being used as intended.

It's obvious the lake is the most important asset Grant County has. The lake got more votes this year than the mayor of Moses Lake.

I encourage you to call the MLIRD office anytime you have a question or suggestion and to come to our monthly meetings just to see how things are going.
