Joan Kelley Paulsell

| January 4, 2011 5:00 AM

On December 23, 2010, Joan Kelley Paulsell passed away peacefully at home with her daughter and granddaughter, surrounded by love.

Joan was born on July 12, 1923, in Moscow, Idaho. Later the family moved to Everett, Washington. She attended the University of Washington.

In November 1945 Joan married Virgil T. Kelley. They raised their two daughters, Sharon and Karen, in Bellevue. During their happy years together Virgil continued working for Boeing and they enjoyed a wonderful life. Sadly, he preceded her in death.

While working at SeaFirst Bank Joan met Frederick O. Paulsell Sr and they married in March 1974. With that marriage Joan gained a son, Frederick O. Paulsell Jr., and daughter, Lynne M. Dalbey, and 4 more grandchildren!

Soon after their marriage, she and Fred moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. They truly enjoyed the golf and warm weather in the southwest. The couple took regular vacations and always had grandchildren around for spring break and Christmases. Many fun times were had by the pool!

In May 1990 Fred passed away. Joan kept very busy attending the grand children’s weddings and other family functions. She and Marcia, daughter, travelled extensively. Although Joan remained in Scottsdale her family made regular visits to spend time with her and she had many close friends nearby.

Joan was a regular at the CoCo’s near the mall! She developed close relationships with both the employees and other regular customers. Cindy was very protective of Joan and always made sure that she had a big helping of dessert! Whenever her daughter, Karen or granddaughter, Stephanie were in town a meal at CoCo’s was a must!

After being asked for several years, Joan finally agreed to move back to her home state of Washington. In April of 2010 Karen flew down and the two of them had a Mother-Daughter road trip! Joan was eager to see it all as they travelled north. She settled down in Moses Lake with her daughter and granddaughter. Although, Joan was not a big fan of indoor pets she quickly adjusted to the chaos of the dogs, cats and birds. Nothing made her laugh more than seeing Karen or Stephanie walking around with a bird on their head!

She loved sitting out on the deck and watching the geese and ducks on the lake. One of her favorite sights was the big Blue Heron that would land in front. Joan got a kick out of Roadie trying to keep the yard free of geese. She could garden and tend to her potted plants on the deck while taking it all in.

Joan is survived by her 3 daughters,7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 sister, 2 brothers and one very special, dear friend, Peggy Kinave. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her family and all that were fortunate enough to know her.

Contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Her Life will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011, at the Porterhouse Restaurant, at 2:00 p.m., in Moses Lake. It was her favorite place in town so please join her family and friends.

Please sign the book or leave a note for the family at www.kayserschapel.com Arrangements are in care of Kayser’s Chapel & Crematory, Moses Lake.
