Wenatchee Wild hockey players visit Moses Lake

MOSES LAKE - The Wenatchee Wild invite the public to come and skate at the Moses Lake ice rink on Saturday.

Five players for the Wenatchee Wild hockey team are hosting a youth clinic and public meet-and-greet as part of their community outreach efforts from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

"This is the third year that we've done this," said Tom Los, of Moses Lake Parks and Recreation. "The Wild have been very supportive of hockey out here and trying to grow the sport outside of Wenatchee. We're kind of turning this town into a Wenatchee Wild hockey town." 

Goalie Brandon Jaeger and players Chris Rumble, D.J. Vandercook, Kyle Huson, Richard Berzins are attending the event, according to Jeremy Anders, who works with the Wild. 

"They'll be running some basic drills and helping the kids out and being there supporting," said Anders. "We go and help out in all different communities all over, to give back to the community. We feel like we're north central Washington's team."

Younger hockey players can learn from the Wild from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the youth clinic.

"Our youth get a chance to work with someone a little more professional," says Los. "They do kind of drills and skill and give some direction to our youth on how to be better hockey players." 

Los says the Wild usually bring prizes for the crowd.

"We never really know what they're going to bring, one year they brought a jersey and they've brought their own used sticks. Typically it's hats, shirts, pucks, it's hard to say what they could be giving away," said Los. "It's only for an hour so we're hoping for a large turnout."
