Moses Lake council goes on retreat

| February 26, 2011 5:00 AM

MOSES LAKE - Public participation is encouraged during the Moses Lake City Council retreat today and tomorrow.

The retreat is at the ATEC building at Big Bend Community College, located at 7662 Chanute St. N.E.

Today, councilmembers began at 1 p.m.

Saturday's schedule is from a 9 a.m. until roughly 5 p.m., with lunch from noon to 1 p.m.

The retreat is a way for councilmembers to listen to citizen input on various topics.

Councilmembers may generate ideas on issues, but will make decisions during a regular city council meeting, according to city manager Joe Gavinski.

He said the city may have $2 million available starting in 2012 from industrial property taxes.

Some of the topics councilmembers plan to discuss at the retreat include: fire and police substation, residential vacation rentals, retail recruitment, Blue Heron campground, library renovations, financial overview, review and future revenue, promotional program/concert series, police firing range and neighborhood park completion.

City councilmembers will discuss many other topics. The retreat does not have a schedule for discussions.
