RETAIL SHOPPING

| February 25, 2011 5:00 AM

This letter is in response to the letter from Terry Brewer regarding "big box" retail recruitment.

I am having a hard time understanding the statement about shopping locally so store revenues will go up and other prospective retailers will take notice. You did not give us any hint of where we are to shop.

The first question would be "where would one shop?" If you are talking groceries, we have Safeway, Lep-re-kon and Grocery Outlet. This is good!

However, where does one buy men's suits, men's shoes, men's underwear? Everything points to Walmart. What store has put many other Moses Lake stores out of business? Again, it points to Walmart.

Oh, now I understand. If I do all my shopping at Walmart, they will report all of their revenues to Target, Fred Meyer, Shopko, J.C. Penney and Macy's. Surely you jest!

The truth of the matter is, no new retailer will come to Moses Lake because they will not compete with Walmart. So I will continue to shop out of town for all the items I cannot find here.
