GRANT COUNTY PUD

| February 25, 2011 5:00 AM

Be quick! Close the barn door! Our wonderful hydropower might get rustled by a foreign mega-corporation. What will we do? What should we do? Should we just promise to provide all the cheap electricity the large industrial corporation wants? They say they need huge amounts of our cheap electricity to provide good union jobs and local tax dollars. (Foreign owned companies don't pay U.S. income tax do they?) Are local jobs and taxes the two most important factors determining the price and allocation of our hydropower? Can we give one mega-corporation a sweetheart deal and then deny the same arrangement to the others that will show up here in Grant County wanting our cheap electricity? Or is that horse already out of the barn?
