Officer of the year named

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Police Department recognized Officer Matt Fulbright as the department's employee of the year.

Fulbright, 28, was hired by the department in 2006 as a station officer. He became the department's traffic officer of the year in 2007 and 2008.

"It's an award that's selected by other officers, and they vote on who is the most deserving of the award," said police Chief Dean Mitchell.

The department honored Fulbright along with several other employees on Tuesday afternoon.

"I'm very humbled to stand here. Just be recognized amongst all my peers means a lot. I'd be lying if I didn't say I love working for this department and all the guys I work with. I learned from all of you guys; making me the officer that I am, so I appreciate it," said Fulbright during his acceptance speech.

The department has 34 full time officers, said Mitchell.

Mike Alvarado was recognized for his service to the department's chaplain program.

Randy Loyd was named the traffic officer of the year.

Bob Carpenter received the chief's award.

Dean Gaddis received an award for his help with the department's remodeling projects.
