HB 1609

| February 18, 2011 5:00 AM

As a teacher I am opposed to HB 1609. This bill wants to take away a great Evaluation Collaborative Pilot Project that is currently happening in Washington State and replace it with a one size fits all canned mandate. With a collaborative process in place the evaluation will be fair and equitable and both parties are able to agree. If this bill gets through the legislature it will instead give power to principals who can then arbitrarily remove an employee and take power away from the school board who is elected by the public. I believe that each school district should have the ability to set their own evaluation process where all parties can come to agreement instead of a one size fits all model approach. Olympia is known for making policy decisions both good and bad. This policy decision is a step in the wrong direction if adopted.
