Broken water pipe suspends BBCC access

| February 11, 2011 5:00 AM

MOSES LAKE - Big Bend Community College was without water access for about two hours Tuesday afternoon after a water pipe broke.

Grant County PUD workers were out in the Larson housing area installing a primary power line when they hit a 2-inch galvanized water line, according to Moses Lake Public Works Superintendent Tim Varney.

Workers had to shut down water access from the pipe while they worked on it.

The Big Bend Community College day care center, located in the ATEC building, did not have water for two hours.

Day care workers decided to shut down the center early.

Public works employees came out to help repair the broken pipe around 2 p.m., he said.

The pipe was fixed before 4:30 p.m., according to Varney.

"We're concerned about the quality of water. We want to get out there as soon as possible and get it fixed so that there is no possibility of dirt getting into the water system," said Varney.

No other businesses were affected by the water line disruption.
