MATTAWA - After a strong finish to last year's wrestling season, the Warden Lady Cougars are hoping to do even more in 2011.

The Lady Cougars cruised to the Sub Regional No. 9 title on Saturday with 243 team points, outdistancing runners-up Othello (134 points).

Royal finished fifth with 38 points.

The top two wrestlers in each class advanced to the regional meet this weekend at Connell High School.

Warden earned eight individual titles behind the wrestling of: Deianiera Caudle (103-pounds, second period pin over Othello's Bianca Mendoza), Dora Gonzalez (119-pounds, 7-4 win over Lady Cougar Brenda DeLeon), Bianca Hernandez (125-pounds, second period pin over Jatender Veenstra of Royal), Miexy Gonzales (130-pounds, first period pin), Taylor Edson (135-pounds, first period pin), Michelle Gonzales (145-pounds, second period pin), Carter Marks (152-pounds, won by disqualification), and Genesis Gonzalez (160-pounds, first period pin).

Also, Kayla Huber advanced despite having to default due to injury in the 140-pound final, while her Warden teammate Melissa Vasquez dropped a 3-2 decision at 112-pounds against Royal's Breanne Diaz.

Lady Cougar Yeseily Prundea is an alternate.

Diaz and Veenstra are the only two Lady Knights of Royal to advance on.

Othello's qualifiers were not made available other than Mendoza.
