Positions open on Grant County Fair committee
EPHRATA - The Grant County commissioners are seeking people interested in joining the newly-created fair advisory committee.
The committee is replacing the Grant County Fair Board, after the commissioners decided not to renew the board's contract for 2011. The county used to contract with the fair board to run the Spring Fair and Home Show, and the Grant County Fair.
The seven-member committee will assist the fairgrounds office staff in preparing and running both events, according to the commissioners.
Commissioner Cindy Carter said the committee will advise fairgrounds staff about what they would like to see at the fair and the staff will manage the fair. The county also can hire a part-time staff member to help staff.
"We've had a lot of interest so far. We've received a lot of letters of interest so far," she said. "I think it's very possible to get (the board appointed) by the end of this month."
Commissioners are still deciding the composition of the board, Carter said. Initial plans call for two members from each of the commissioners' districts and a seventh at-large position.
"Our goal is the public doesn't feel there's a glitch in the fair," she said.
Committee members will have one-, two- and three-year terms with a maximum limit of six years, according to the commissioners.
People interested in joining can send a letter of interest to the Grant County commissioners PO Box 37 Ephrata, WA 98823.
