Quincy firefighters recognized for efforts

QUINCY - Grant County Fire District 3 recently recognized

firefighters for their outstanding service.

About 160 people attended the awards banquet on Saturday at the

Quincy Community Center in Quincy. The guest list included

commissioners, staff and volunteer firefighters.

About 160 people attended the awards banquet on Saturday at the Quincy Community Center in Quincy. The guest list included commissioners, staff and volunteer firefighters.

Volunteer Capt. Howard VanBaugh topped the list of awards, receiving the most active volunteer of the year award, chief's award and most active firefighter in the Quincy fire stations award.

"Howard had the highest overall activity; he had the extra training needed (for the chiefs award). He always goes above and beyond without being asked," said Grant County Fire District 3 Assistant Fire Chief Tony Leibelt.

VanBaugh beat out 80 other volunteer firefighters for the awards, said Leibelt.

The volunteer captain is also an emergency medical technician for the fire district.

VanBaugh was one of several firefighters recognized for their services.

Below is the list of award recipients:

* Sam Hart for rookie of the year

* Ron Friedrich and Russ Harrington for community service

* Dave Reynolds for 26 years of service

* Kent Bacon for most active firefighter at fire station 32

* Dustin Hubbard for most active firefighter at fire station 33

* Stephen Boswell for most active firefighter at fire station 34

* Tommy Neagle for most active firefighter at fire station 35

* Lawrence Lewis for most active firefighter at fire station 36

* Randy Zolman for most active firefighter at fire station 37

* Scott Cook, Arlin Hinkel, Mickey Sargent, Joe Westra and Jay Wood for 10 years of service.

* Jim Mathews for 20 years of service

* Jeff Spence for 25 years of service

* Grant County Fire District 3 Fire Chief Don Fortier was awarded for 38 years of fire fighting service.
