QUINCY- A community member donated $100,000 to the Quincy Valley Medical Center Foundation.

The funds are intended to facilitate the purchase of additional land for the medical center.

"Receiving this check was the perfect way to top off a successful year for our facility," says Michelle Wurl, executive director of the foundation. "For a community member to show this type of support for the work we are doing here means more to the staff, board of commissioners and foundation directors than I can express."

The donor, a local business owner, wishes to remain anonymous but presented the check with expressed interest in the money going to the recent purchase of land adjacent to the hospital.

"I appreciate the work which is happening here and the direction I see the facility going," say the donor. "I believe it's important to show that support and I am glad I am able to contribute to the long-term success of this facility. It is my hope and challenge to others in this community that they follow suit and provide backing for our local hospital as they are able."

Mehdi Merred, administrator at Quincy Valley Medical Center said everyone was grateful for the donation.

"Through the acquisition of the property adjacent to the hospital, we now own an entire city block, which definitely gives us enough space for future expansion. This wonderful gift is enabling us to be a significant step closer towards securing the future of our hospital."

To date, donors have given more than $180,000 to the foundation.

The foundation supports the hospital by purchasing special equipment and supporting projects. In 2010 the foundation funded more than $135,000 in equipment and projects at Quincy Valley Medical Center.
