YAKIMA - A slow first quarter was just enough to keep the Moses Lake Christian Academy from a non-league win at Riverside Christian.

On Saturday, the Lions played tough against their Class 2B hosts but could not fully overcome the early deficit in a 46-38 loss.

"We played very well against the tough 2B team that is very athletic and quick," Lions head coach Duke Wood said. "They shoot the ball very well.  Our defense was very good again holding them to 18 points in the second half. But once again we couldn't hit a free throw again going 7-for-19."

Joe Timofeyev led the Lions (10-5) with 12 points.

Against Wilbur-Creston on Friday night in Moses Lake, the Lions used a 15-5 first quarter explosion and a 16-2 third quarter blitz to gain revenge in a 53-33 win.

The Lions lost at Wilbur-Creston earlier this month.

"We played great for four quarters," Wood said. "Our defense was pretty dang good with solid intensity throughout."

The Academy outrebounded WC 35-19 and were led by Timofeyev's 21 points and 10 rebounds while Connor Webb and Thomas Knopp registered identical six point-nine rebound stat lines.
