MAC exhibit features Mexican Folk Art

MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Museum and Art Center's newest art exhibits opens Jan. 6.

The opening reception for the work of Moses Lake artist Matt Woo and the exhibit "El Caballo: The Horse in Mexican Folk Art" is 5 p.m. Jan. 6 at the MAC, 401 South Balsam St.

The artwork will be on display through March 9.

"Stylistically, my work represents a conglomeration of global cultural aesthetics," said Woo. "No matter what race or creed, I hope the viewer will enjoy - have fun with it. The goal of my current work is to provide each person with a unique contextual experience, where each interaction speaks to their immediate emotional state - and discover the changing emotional dynamics in my artwork."

"El Caballo: The Horse in Mexican Folk Art" features traditional artwork crafted from a variety of ceramics, metalwork, paper art, sculpture, and other mediums. Artists use whatever materials are on hand to fashion utilitarian, ceremonial, and decorative objects inspired by the folk art of Mexico.

Each object focuses on the horse, a prominent animal in Mexico.

The exhibit was made by possible by The Friends of MAC and Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department.

"El Caballo" is an ExhibitsUSA program, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance and the National Endowment for the Arts.
