ROYAL CITY - The Royal High School girls held Warden's leading scorer to four points last Friday to post their first win of the year in basketball, 45-34.

"I cannot express how proud I was of the girls," coach Phil Daubel said.

The victory is the only bright spot in what has been a tough season. Royal's two other games last week were losses of 69-21 to Naches and 60-11 to Kiona-Benton in a South Central A Conference East opener.

"We ran into a team that is going to at the top of our league and competing for a state trophy," Daubel said.

The victory over Warden featured a big night for Lindsey Christensen. She scored 10 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

The leading scorers were Kayla Smith with 15 points and Stefhany Guadarrama with 13 points. Smith had four rebounds, and Guadarrama had five assists.

"I think Kayla is finally starting to get into basketball shape," Daubel said.

The rest of the scoring was four points for Moriah Christensen, two for Flor Araujo and one for Brittney Jo Hebdon. Hebdon drew three offensive fouls.

Earlier in the week, Lindsey was the overall leader against Naches with five points and eight rebounds. Moriah had six points and two steals.

Against Ki-Be, the leader was Guadarrama with six points. Hebdon had three, and Hebdon had two.
