MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Police Department is joining other local and state emergency responders in a campaign to "tie one on for safety."

"More drunk driving related deaths occur between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day than at any other time of the year," stated Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell.

Nearly 1,000 people were killed on America's roadways during that period in 2009, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving, which sponsors an annual campaign to raise awareness of drunk driving around the holidays.

Mitchell said the Moses Lake Police Department is taking part in the campaign by placing red ribbons on all police cruisers to remind drivers not to drive drunk during the holiday season, or any time of year.

"By placing red ribbons on our vehicles we hope it will serve as a visual reminder of the individual responsibility we have not to drink and drive," Mitchell stated. "Please do your part, and tie one on for safety."

Members of the public are invited to pick up a red ribbon at the Moses Lake Police Department, 401 S Balsam St., anytime during regular business hours.
