Man shot by police had drug in bloodstream

ROYAL CITY – Pedro Salgado Ceja, who was shot dead by police during a domestic call on Oct. 24, had methamphetamine in his blood during the incident.

According to the death investigation toxicology report acquired from the Grant County Coroner by the Columbia Basin Herald, Ceja had a 0.71 mg/L level in his bloodstream.

Neither the coroner, Craig Morrison, nor Grant County Prosecutor Angus Lee gave an opinion about the impact of the drug on the incident.

However, in his report declaring the shooting was justifiable, Lee noted a witness described Ceja as appearing to be “crazed.” Witnesses said he yelled “shoot me cop” at the officer.
