Salon customers enjoy new location

MOSES LAKE - eden salon customer Susan Hawkins says she was "blown away" by the experience of visiting the newly expanded business.

The salon recently moved from a 600 square-foot building on Broadway Avenue to a nearly 3,000 square-foot location in downtown Moses Lake, at 106 W Third Ave.

Hawkins raved about the larger, remodeled building. It used to be a clothing store.

"To see it come from bare walls to this," said Hawkins, a five-year customer of the business. "This is way larger than the other place and an excellent location."

"This" means more services in one spot, with a modern interior more than triple the size of the salon's former location.

A waiting area neatly blocks off rows of styling chairs and hair washing sinks.

With the larger space, the salon has new offerings of manicures, shellac nails, pedicures and massages all in one place, said eden salon's owner, Jeannie Huck.

Seven stylists work at her new salon.

An esthetic department, body waxing, facials and skin care services are coming soon. She is looking for an esthetician and another manicurist.

"I just felt it was time for a large-scale, full-service salon, where people could have services in one place," Huck commented.

She had a "fantastic" nine years in her former location, calling landlord Les Torrence the "best landlord ever."

She sought a new location for about year because people were calling her, asking about additional services.

Huck credits her husband, Brian Huck, an electrician by trade, and his cousin, Mike Hovenkotter, of Yakima, for their work on the building.

"It was basically just a large, rectangle box with all sorts of possibility," she said. "Mainly Brian and Mike are responsible for the beautiful building they created."

Brian completed a floor plan to update the building.

"Once we got it down on paper, we came in, measured it and went for it," Jeannie said.

She and Brian worked together on the design and the decor.

They started the project the first week of August and opened for business in late November.

Local contractors provided sheet rock and plumbing services.

Now that the new location is open, Jeannie's vision and focus for the business is to focus on the healthy side of beauty.

"I want clients to look good and feel good," she commented. She is fulfilling this goal by offering the line of "Enjoy" hair products, an Oceanside, Calif.-based company.

The products are fairly new to the hair world, about eight or nine years old, she said.

Enjoy's shampoos and conditioners are sulfate-free, she said. The products are considered safe for both the client and stylist using the products day after day, Jeannie explained.

Her staff is highly, professionally trained and masters at what they do, she commented.

"We do it because we love it," she commented.

They design hair, but also enjoy the aspect of visiting with so many people throughout the day.

"Over the years, our clients become our best friends," she said.

Stylist Amy Culpepper said she loves the new location.

"The atmosphere is just amazing," she said. "The clients are coming in, they're just oohing and aahing. People are saying it's more of a welcoming atmosphere. It's like they stepped out of Moses Lake. Sometimes that's what people like, they want to feel like they're in paradise. Basically, I feel like that's how it is here."

Stylist Cindy Hayes said she loves they're supporting local businesses. They're bringing people downtown who might not visit otherwise, she explained.

Their presence may generate more business downtown, she added.
