ROYAL CITY - Royal High School girls coach Phil Daubel was at a loss for words after his club opened the season with a 56-8 loss against Moses Lake Christian last weekend.

"I know we're better than this," Daubel said. "I don't know how to spin it. This is unacceptable for Royal basketball."

The Knights had trouble controlling the ball, turning it over 30 times. They made only three of 27 shots from the field.

"We had our looks, and we missed," Daubel said.

Flor Araujo led Royal scorers with four points. Stefhany Guadarrama had two points, and Seila Jenks and Lindsey Christensen had one each.

The Knights will find this weekend as tough as last. They play at Granger on Thursday and host Zillah on Friday. Both teams are expected to be state contenders again.

"We need to work on defense and rebounds," Daubel said. "We're going to work hard. The girls know what they need to do."
