MATTAWA - Most coaches would refer to a 1-1 start as so-so, but not Wahluke's Cody Marlow. He was excited.

"After two games we're halfway to last year's total (in a 2-18 season)," he said.

The Warriors defeated Cle Elum, 56-44, on Saturday to level their record. They had fallen, 47-33, to Highland on Friday.

Wahluke will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Goldendale on Friday and Naches on Saturday.

The Warriors had double-figure scoring from four players against Cle Elum. Jared Sabin led with 18 points. Oscar Onofre had  15 and Saul Juarez and Edgar Ledesma had 10 each.

Sabin led in rebounds with nine. Abarca led the defense with five steals.

"Sophomore Oscar Onofre had a very nice first varsity game," Marlow said.

The only poor news was at the free throw line, where the Warriors made only 26 percent of their shots.

"We need to relax and focus when we get to the free-throw line," Marlow said. "There will be games that will come down to whether or not we shoot well from the line."

In the loss to Highland, there was balanced scoring, but no Warrior made more than eight points. Jordan Zirker led the way. Onofre, Sabin and Rafael had six points each.

"We need to be more aggressive on offense," Marlow said. "Consistency will be a key for us."

The Warriors got 11 rebounds each from Sabin and Dario Prudente.
