Readers encourage people to vote

Please Moses Lake when is enough enough? I am writing in regards to the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District election. The district employs five maybe six full time people. They maintain a 6,000 acre lake, a 100 acre park, a dam, and a pump station, along with who know what else. These are not people sitting around doing nothing. They have families and are a part of our community.

Are we not capable of having a clean election in our community without the hate? Everyone seems to have an opinion about what the district should be doing and how they should be doing it. Yet, participation in board meetings and forums is minimal. If you don't like it, fix it! Don't expect a mouthy board of directors to fix it for you. This is our lake! Our park!

A few weeks ago over 300 people in our community volunteered their time and completely redid a section of Connelly park. Within a week, a few people tore up all this work with their motorcycles. This is what happens when you demonize a part of our community. It becomes OK to tear up district property. Only it's our park and it's not OK.

Please stop with the accusations! How many of us would commit a felony to save our jobs. I wouldn't and I don't know anyone who would.

And please, please be mindful of anyone who wants to "help" you vote. Not so long ago New York had "bosses" that would "help" Irish immigrants vote. The beauty of voting is that we can have a say without having to justify our choice to anyone else.
