Gov. Christine Gregoire has proclaimed Dec. 7 as Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day to honor those who were killed or wounded on that fateful day in 1941, with all state and federal office buildings to lower the flags to half staff.

Seventy years ago, over 2,400 servicemen were killed on the first attack on American soil and 250 ships and aircraft were destroyed.

The American Legion Post 28, Ephrata, also encourages business and homeowners to lower the flag on that day to half staff, and bring them back to full staff on Dec. 8.

The Post would also like everyone to look at their American flag and if they are tattered or torn, please bring them down to the Post at 276 8th Ave. NW in Ephrata.
