Reader voting for Bill Bailey

We are faced with an important decision. The election for director of the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District will help determine the future of our lake.

Bill Bailey is a long time resident of Moses Lake and has been very involved in community service. He is the owner/operator of a successful construction business.

Bill Bailey has served on the Planning Commission of the City of Moses Lake and Grant County Planning Board. This gives him an understanding of rules and regulations that must be followed dealing with the sediment problems that plague our lake. It has taken many years for the lake to deteriorate to its current state; it will take considerable time, money and effort to deal with this complex problem.

Bill will bring additional accountability and transparency to this position. His only agenda is to improve Moses Lake, to restore it in a responsible manner, making good use of the valuable taxpayer resources.

This issue affects Moses Lake and our efforts to improve the quality of life in our community. I have spent time visiting the dredge site, talking with employees and trying to learn as much as I can about this project. My observation is that we are on the right track. We are doing something that is unique in the Northwest. I have not found any other agency that is attempting to restore a lake that contains several inches of Mount St. Helens ash, years of sediment deposits from Crab Creek, Rocky Ford Creek drainage and adjacent agriculture lands.
