Reader thinks ballot process is too complex

I went to the Moses Lake Irrigation and Rehabilitation District office to apply for an absentee ballot.

What a hassle. No wonder property owners think this is too much trouble. That is exactly what the irrigation office is hoping for.

I have two parcels of land, which entitles me to four votes.

As I entered the office, candidate Bill Bailey greeted me at the door. He shouldn't be allowed in the office until after the election. Was he trying to drum up votes?

My property is in a trust. I was told to bring something to prove I was the owner. I took my 2011 tax statement, which should have been enough. But no, I needed to bring something from my living trust to prove I am the owner.

I am also required to have a photocopy of photo identification.

This is outright ridiculous! No wonder people don't want to go to all this trouble. They require more information than when we vote for the president.

In my opinion, Bill Bailey owns the building the district rents for $34,200 a year. This is a conflict of interest. You can be sure if he is elected, anything the district wanted to do would be OK with him. He is not going to jeopardize that income!

It seems the present manager, majority of the directors and chairman of the district do not want Mick Hansen to be elected and are doing everything possible to keep this from happening. Such as Bill Bailey's ad comparing Ron Covey and Hansen and not telling the truth. Hansen has owned several businesses in Moses Lake, born and raised here.

To say Hansen would kill the current project is a downright lie. A vote for Mick Hansen will bring about much needed change.
