Grant PUD customers help Share the Warmth

MOSES LAKE - Grant County PUD customers gave more than $38,000 to help fellow residents pay their electric bills this year.
The money was shared amongst 183 individuals and families.
But the need hasn't subsided. Donations are still being accepted and are received throughout the year.
Grant PUD customers can donate to the program when paying their monthly bills in person, online or by enrolling in the pledge program by calling 509-766-2505.
"The donations received through Share the Warmth proves that while our communities may be small, our customer's capacity to give generously is not," commented Tony Webb, Grant PUD's assistant general manager. "Share the Warmth is really one of the most meaningful ways that anyone can give this season."
Some past recipients of the program include the elderly, those living on fixed incomes, single parents and people coming up short financially for a variety of reasons.
The average residential customer's bill is about $80 per month, according to Thomas Stredwick, a district spokesperson.
But customers tend to use more power in the winter, increasing their bill, he added.
The program was started in the 1980s and formed to assist customers having a difficult time making their payments.
Customers can learn more about the program from PUD customer service representatives, through the district's partner agency, Opportunities Industrialization Center, and advertisements.
At the PUD, customer service representatives are watching for people in need.
"The intent of the fund is to provide for those most vulnerable within our community," Stredwick stated. "Our CSRs are sensitive of the needs of our customer and are always looking for ways to meet their needs when possible."
