CBSS boys roll over Thorp

MOSES LAKE - Eric Curtis pumped in 41 points and Harry Hansen added 20 to lead the Columbia Basin Secondary School (CBSS) to an 80-67 win over Thorp Tuesday.

"It was a fun game to watch," coach Rolland Hansen said. "I credit my whole team with this win."

The Tigers got out to an 8-0 run on the Phoenix home court to start the game. But CBSS got a big lift from its defense with a series of steals that jump-started the Phoenix offense as the team took a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A huge offensive output in the second quarter led by Curtis (16), Hansen (9), and seven points by Jarrod Record, propelled CBSS to an 18 point lead at halftime, 45-27.

Phoenix guard Allen Curtiss and Record (post) got in foul trouble early in the third quarter, so first year players Fynn Jansen, Erich Scriven, Micky Nguyen and Kenny Wicks, came on in relief. The team didn't miss a beat, as CBSS scored 36 second half points to come away with the win.

"It was a great game in the second half as Thorp scored 41 points and we scored 36," Hansen said. "It took a solid effort by my entire squad to hold off a fourth quarter rally as Thorp got within nine at one point."

The Tigers Derek Davis lit up the Phoenix defense for 47 points, scoring 10 or more points in each quarter.

CBSS gets back to round ball action Saturday, when the team hosts Oroville at 6 p.m.
