Pie and salsa contests slated

| August 26, 2011 6:00 AM

MATTAWA - Everyone is invited to participate in the pie and salsa contests when Mattawa celebrates its Community Days on Saturday, Aug. 27.

One of the highlights of the day will be the crowning of the Salsa King/Queen and Pie King/Queen. Both contests will have panels of five judges. Two salsa judges are still needed.

The salsa contest will be one competition only. The top three places will be recognized.

For rules, information and an entry form, call Lupe Martinez at 830-2305.

"We will be looking for originality, freshness and taste," she said. "All ingredients must be fresh, not canned."

According to pie contest coordinator Cynthia DeVictoria, there will be two contests, one for creams, one for fruits. Pies must be made from scratch, and all ingredients possible must be fresh.

For rules, information and an entry form, call DeVictoria at 831-8991.

Neither the salsas nor the pies have to be made on site.
