MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Police Department will hold a presentation next Wednesday, Aug. 31, to address gangs and other youth crime in the greater Moses Lake area.

The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. in the Moses Lake City Council Chambers and is open to all members of the public.

Law enforcement officials and members of several community groups will provide information on various strategies and programs being employed to combat crimes committed by juveniles, young adults and criminal street gangs, according to Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell.

"We've done things like this in the past," Mitchell said. "I just felt it was necessary to get some information out to the public who may not know what resources we provide to our youth."

He added the presentation may be of particular interest to parents who are apprehensive about sending children to schools with gang activity or whose own kids are involved in gangs.

Members of the Moses Lake Police Department's street crimes unit and school resource program will be present, as will representatives from the Moses Lake Boys and Girls Club, Youth Dynamics, Grant County Juvenile Detention Center and the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

"Everyone may know about (these groups) but I don't think they understand how we put it together as a team," Mitchell said.
