ROYAL CITY - Toyota and the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) have awarded Royal High School teacher Mario Godoy-Gonzalez a $10,000 grant in support of three renewable energy projects.
Godoy-Gonzalez is one of 50 teachers selected to receive the Toyota Tapestry grant this year. It is for innovation in science education.
Godoy-Conzalez's proposal calls for students to visit three renewable energy projects in the area to learn about the science behind wind power, solar energy and hydropower.
Ultimately students should develop the necessary skills to design prototypes of wind turbines and solar panels in sizes appropriate for the classroom. The project is scheduled to begin in August.
