Mildred Conley

| August 19, 2011 6:00 AM

Mildred Pauline "Millie" Conley was born in Pottsville, Arkansas on Dec. 17, 1936, and passed away surrounded by family, after an unexpected illness Aug. 15, 2011. Preceded by her sisters Velma and Jean and survived by her mother Anne and brothers Willie and Doyle. Millie left a legacy of love, strength and courage. She lived the fullest life with the love of her life by her side, her "firecracker" Bill Conley. Married July 4, 1958, together they accomplished the American Dream, built a family with their four children David, Calvin, Wayne and Belinda, and experienced blessings beyond measure. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren Samantha, Kristen, Stephanie, Sarabeth, Shauna and Christopher, their spouses and her great grandchildren Dallas, Azaray, Anthony, Landon, Kadence, Conley and two on the way.

She and Bill had a passion for travel, together in their motor home visited all 50 states and beyond. While wintering in Palm Springs they indulged in an active social life along with the warm weather. She enjoyed competing in lawn games, beanbags in particular, and usually won. She loved fishing and took great pride in the fact that she could always catch the biggest and the most fish and would happily take your money in a bet, even if you were her 8-year-old grandkid.

Millie enjoyed entertaining, hosting happy-hour parties at their lake house or crusin' the party barge on Moses Lake while wearing a tee that stated "Let's Party!" You could usually see her driving her 1979, Bill Blass Limited Edition Lincoln Continental on her way for a mani-pedi, showing her grandkids the tickle torture of "how the cow eats the corn" or stealing their sugar with too many kisses. Always out to have a ball, she loved to laugh, be silly and never took life too seriously. Millie loved baking, knitting, making porcelain dolls, and playing games. Her catfish and hushpuppies were second to none, she created the avocado sandwich and her blueberry muffin breakfasts have always been a family favorite.

The love in her heart overflowed around her in a playful and warm way. Millie will always be remembered for her fun loving spirit; her adventurous go get 'em attitude, her softer side singing rock-a-by-baby, and the amazing family of people she and Bill founded together. She will be missed and we are sad she is gone but we rejoice in knowing she has gone home to the Lord and is now resting in His arms. We praise Jesus for the time we had with her and the memories we've shared and we look forward to the day when she welcomes us home in her warm, loving arms.

She stole all the sugar from her kids, grandkids and great grandkids, but she took it with her to heaven and we are all happy to have given it to her. Today we are not saying goodbye; we are simply saying "until we see you again, keep our sugar sweet." We love you!

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011 at Kayser's Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow at Guarding Angels Cemetery.
