Kids injured when vehicle rolls near Mattawa

MATTAWA - Three boys from Vantage were taken to the hospital after their car hit a rock wall and rolled, about 10 miles north of Mattawa.

A 16-year-old male was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra passenger car northbound on state Route 243 at about 1:40 p.m. on Aug. 5 when the vehicle drifted off the roadway to the right, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The car over-corrected, crossed both lanes and left the roadway, striking a rock wall and rolling before coming to rest on its wheels on the southbound shoulder, the report stated.

The driver was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake with scrapes and bruises.

A 12-year-old male passenger was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee with a reported head injury.

A 14-year-old male passenger was transported to Samaritan Hospital with reported head injuries, scrapes and bruises.

The cause of the accident was deemed to be inattention, according to the Washington State Patrol, and the driver was cited for wheels off roadway.

The Nissan was totaled and towed from the scene.
