Mattawa finance officer resigns

MATTAWA - City of Mattawa Finance Officer Diane Martinez has resigned as of Aug. 2. She will take a similar job with the City of Sunnyside, where she lives.

According to Mattawa City Clerk Robin Newcomb, the city will not hire a replacement immediately. The first step will be to hire a counter clerk for city hall.

In other Mattawa City Council business, Public Works Director Gary Crowder lauded Betty Webster and her son Kevin Webster Jr. for volunteering to help in the city's street patching project. Kevin Webster Sr. works for the department.

Crowder reported that the Scata (computer update) project at the waste water treatment plan has been completed.

Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church requested an event for a Fiesta Mexicana celebration on Sept. 18 that will include a parade.
