Reader applauds stimulus bill, work

When I moved to Eastern Washington in 1947, Moses Lake was just a not so very wide spot in the road. When I moved to Moses Lake 49 years ago, Moses Lake had become the major agricultural community in Grant County. Thanks to positive, progressive thinking of people like President Franklin Roosevelt and the Congress that funded the Columbia Basin Reclamation Project, the desert truly bloomed. Moses Lake has bloomed with it.

Now in 20011 the Columbia Basin project is becoming enlarged with the construction of the Weber Siphon. This will help farmers and agricultural interests in Eastern Washington. How did this come about? Under the guidance and leadership of Gov. Chris Gregoire, $800,000 was allocated to design a new water project now referred to as the Weber Siphon. The federal government spent $36 million in stimulus funds for its construction. Not one Republican voted for the stimulus package that has saved thousands of job. Eastern Washington will certainly benefit. I supported the stimulus bill, but I wish more people in Eastern Washington saw the wisdom of this act.
