Grand opening Friday for Mattawa food bank

MATTAWA - The new Mattawa Area Food Bank will have a grand opening celebration this Friday, Aug. 12, from 1-4 p.m.
The new Mattawa Area Food Bank is located in the Port of Mattawa, north and west of the administration building at 23898 Road T.2 SW. It was built entirely by volunteers with donated funds.
"The food bank board of directors wants to thank everyone who generously donated money and their building expertise," said board member Linda Strand.
"We also thank all of the volunteers who work at the bank ... helping to stock shelves, package food and prepare boxes of food for food bank clients," she added.
This will be a permanent home for the Mattawa Area Food Bank. It has changed locations several times. The new building has 1,800 square feet of space. Sanchez moved to Mattawa in 1994, coming here from Mexico. She raises the number of CBHA board members to 12.
"Members of the board at CBHA are instrumental in providing the vision and support needed to continue to grow and develop as an organization," Brandenburg said.
