MOSES LAKE - A 13-year-old Ephrata boy died Monday after drowning in Moses Lake Saturday evening.

Daniel Bazan-Viveros was swimming with friends and family Saturday evening at Connelly Park, northwest of the city of Moses Lake. At just before 6 p.m. a girl called 911 to say her brother had jumped off a shoreline rock into the water and never resurfaced, according to Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones.

Several family members and citizens searched for Bazan-Viveros, along with sheriff's deputies and a sheriff's marine patrol unit, Jones stated on Tuesday.

The boy was found about 10-15 minutes later in about five feet of water near the shore.

He had no pulse and was not breathing at that time, and AMR paramedics began aggressive treatment and transported him to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake, according to Jones.

Bazan-Viveros was later transferred to Providence-Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he remained on life support until he died Monday morning.

The victim's name was released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner Tuesday.

At this time the sheriff's office believes this was an accident and no criminal charges are expected to be filed, Jones stated.
