Dody's Drive-In opens Monday

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake Taco Time franchise owners Len and Sharon Seltz open their second business Monday, the 1950s-themed Dody's Drive-In.

"It's been very busy today," Len Seltz said. "We've had a lot of good reviews. People have been very happy with it."

Customer Ric Johnson, of Moses Lake, ate a "Danger Dog," an all-beef hot dog wrapped in bacon, with pineapple, habanero sauce, guacamole and cilantro, and a "Chicago Dog."

"It was good," Johnson commented. "I'll come back."

Seltz said many of their Taco Time customers have migrated to Dody's Drive-In, at 110 E. Fifth Ave.

Their new business's menu features gourmet hot dogs, Philly cheesesteaks, gyros and pitas, explained Len Seltz.

He also has plans to create a vegetarian hot dog and offer baked potatoes for vegetarians.

He figured other restaurants would be serving plenty of burgers and decided not to.

"I wanted to do something different," he said. "I always wanted a place of my own. It brings back old memories."

The building's inside decor is pink and black, with posters of Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and classic cars.

The Seltz's have been working on remodeling the building for the past few years.

Len Seltz says he loves to cook and gets to do something totally different than at his Taco Time.

The 58-year-old also loves 1950s music, which plays in the drive-in.

"Many are saying (the 1950s) is back when life was good," Len Seltz said. "Life is good, but different. We want to bring back some good memories."

Employee Brittney Teeter, of Moses Lake, heard positive comments from customers.

"People say it's great food," she said. "They like it. They say the fries are the best in town."

One customer, a former chef in Las Vegas, told her they were they best fries he had tasted.

Once hiring is completed, between six and eight new jobs will be created with the new drive-in.

Their daughter, Jessica Stang, a current Taco Time employee, will help at the drive-in, and well as other Taco Time crew members.

Hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and closed on Sunday.

A grand opening is planned for the end of the month
