MOSES LAKE - Hundreds of people came to Moses Lake's National Night Out celebration at Sinkiuse Square Tuesday evening.

"We had a good turn out and served nearly 200 hot dogs, and who knows how much ice cream," Moses Lake Police Chief Dean Mitchell stated. "Our goal was to encourage our community members to get to know each other, and make a stand against crime through education and community interaction."

More than 36 million people in 16,000 communities were expected to celebrate the event nationwide for the 28th year, according to the organization's website.

In downtown Moses Lake the Centennial Band kept the crowd entertained while browsing displays from the Central Basin Traffic Safety Task Force, the Washington State Patrol, Moses Lake Fire Department, the Moses Lake Museum and Arts Center, the Children's Miracle Network and the Moses Lake Police Department.

The Moses Lake Police plan to build on the success for a larger celebration downtown next year while helping neighborhoods host their own, Mitchell said.
