GEORGE - A 29-year-old George man died from injuries he suffered in a car crash south of George on July 24.

Jesus Chavez died July 30 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was transported after being discovered in a ditch along Frenchman Hills Road near County Road O Southwest, according to the Grant County Sheriff's Office.

Chavez was treated at the scene by Grant County Fire District 3 firefighters and American Medical Response paramedics. He was flown by MedStar helicopter to Central Washington Hospital before being airlifted to Harborview in Seattle.

Chavez reportedly suffered a broken back, head injuries and numerous broken bones.

A preliminary investigation revealed Chavez's 2003 Honda Accord was traveling on Frenchman Hills Road when it failed to negotiate a curve in the road, struck a canal ditch and rolled several times, coming to rest in the middle of Frenchman Hills Road, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Chavez was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.

Excessive vehicle speed was determined to be a contributing factor to this collision, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's Motor Traffic Unit deputies are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or had contact with Chavez prior to the collision. People with information are asked to contact Sgt. Ron Renken or Deputy Tyson Voss at 509-754-2011 ext. 468.
