Hot Desert Nights this Saturday

DESERT AIRE - The annual Hot Desert Nights, sponsored by the Mattawa-Desert Aire Lions Club, will be held this Saturday, Aug. 6, at Desert Aire.

Bring your hats, your shades and your sun block. Accuweather is predicting a high temperature of 94.

The action will be hot too. It will kick off with the Hot Desert Nights Golf Tournament at 7:30 a.m. at the Desert Aire Golf Course. To enter, call Bob Carter at 331-7047.

The Hot Desert Nights drag races on the airport runway will get under way at noon. The entry fee for racers will be $20. To enter, call Val Carter at 331-7047.

There will be a free classic car show from 4-7 p.m.

Dinner in the park will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. The $20 dinner ticket will also cover a star-light dance in the park from 7-10 p.m. with music by Rock-a-Dile.

The meal will be catered by Smoke House Grill of Moses Lake. The main course will be barbecued chicken, baby back ribs and beef brisket.

Proceeds from Hot Desert Nights go to the Lions Club's general fun for support of its charitable programs. It is the club's largest fund-raiser of the year and the community's largest event.
