Guns a part of recent Mattawa police calls

MATTAWA - The firing and flashing of guns were among incidents the Mattawa Police Department dealt with in early July, according to Chief Jim Jensen.

The first incident was reported on July 3. It was a drive-by shooting in the Riverview Trailer Park. Two people were transported to a hospital in Yakima, one with a left forearm injury.

The injured subjects were on foot when the drive-by occurred. No one was arrested, but there were suspects as of July 22.

The second gun incident occurred the next day, July 4. Unknown persons in a vehicle pointed a weapon at several people standing in front of a house on S. Riverview Ave.

There was a domestic disturbance at a location on East 4th Street on July 5. A mother advised police that her intoxicated adult son was "getting in her face," Jensen said. The son is a known gang member, he added.

On July 9 police dealt with an incident that may result in a charge of rape of a child for an 18-year-old man.

In the S. Broadway incident, parents reported that their 14-year-old daughter was at their home with a boy that was 17 or 18. They were out of the home, and their nine-year-old son reported the activity to them.

Jensen said the young man was there involved in what appeared to be non-consensual sexual activity. He said the girl was not of age to give consent. Therefore the charge of rape of a child may apply.

There was no arrest, but the name of the suspect is known, Jensen said. An investigation was continuing as of July 22.
